MIT Celebrates Inaugural NCAA Division III Week
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In celebration of the inaugural NCAA Division III Week, the MIT Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will host its annual field trip for the sixth-grade class of the Boston Collegiate Charter School (BCCS) on Friday, April 13. Running April 9-15, Division III Week celebrates the unique Division III student-athlete experience, which offers a highly competitive athletics environment, a commitment to academic excellence and time to pursue other interests.
For the third year in a row, approximately 100 sixth graders from the Dorchester-based school will visit MIT. The purpose of the trip is to introduce the students to the college experience and show them it's possible for them to attend college if they work hard. The academic portion of their program will feature a tour of the laboratories and an experiment or presentation conducted by a professor. Later on, MIT's student-athletes will conduct a question and answer session discussing college and then lead several activities for the BCCS students.
Division III is the NCAA's largest and most diverse division, with more than 440 members, 40 conferences and 170,000 student-athletes.
