CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A new face joined the MIT Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER) today as Julie Soriero, the Director of Athletics and Department Head of DAPER announced that Lauren Haynie as joined the staff as the Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics/Department Head of DAPER. She comes to Cambridge following a six-year tenure as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine at Catholic University.
At MIT Haynie will provide direct administrative support to the Director of Athletics/Department Head of DAPER. She will also plan, facilitate and coordinate department-wide initiatives, projects and committees. In addition Haynie will be the department’s liaison to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
“Lauren brings a student-centric focus to DAPER,” remarked Soriero. “Her experience and work in the administrative and educational aspects of college athletics will be an asset to DAPER’s broad-based programming and her future success at MIT.”
During her time with the Cardinals, Haynie oversaw the operation of the athletic training room and assisted in planning the rehabilitation process for all 21 teams. She was an advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Council and the cheerleading team and contributed towards planning educational opportunities for student-athletes as a Student-Athlete Affairs Advisor.
Prior to Catholic, Haynie also served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine at Assumption College for two years. She made the move to Massachusetts after a two-year stint as the Head Athletic Trainer at Lane College in Jackson, Tenn.
Haynie received a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from Penn State in 2000 and then earned a Master’s of Science in Education from Old Dominion University in 2002. She is currently pursuing an MBA with a Sports Management emphasis at Southern New Hampshire University.
