Katie Hoppe joined MIT’s Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation (DAPER) in November 2012. Her responsibilities include NCAA compliance, special event management, and serving as the co-director of "Engineering Success", MIT's student-athlete wellbeing initiative.

As the chair of the Engineering Success Leadership Committee, Hoppe works with a team that researches and develops a specialized student-athlete wellbeing program focused on implementing leadership skills over the course of four years. She is also a member of the DAPER Mentor Program Planning Team where she assists with research, development, and implementation of a program that has created 20 mentor-mentee relationships.

Within MIT’s Division of Student Life (DSL), Hoppe was on the Assessment Planning Group. Over the course of the 2013-14 academic year, she worked alongside DSL administrators to provide assessment education and accessibility for 100 DSL colleagues. Hoppe also contributed to the Holiday Party Planning Committee and the Infinite Mile Awards Committee.

Hoppe is a two-time DSL Infinite Mile Award recipient. Her work with the Assessment Planning Group earned her the “Building Community Award” while she was recognized in 2016 with the “Serving the Client Award” as a member of the MIT varsity athletics support team.

Prior to her arrival in Cambridge, Hoppe completed an internship with the Special Olympics of Massachusetts (SOMA). During her tenure, she was the Start Line Coordinator for the track and field competition at the Summer Games and created sport-specific coaching questionnaires for the organization’s Coaches Education initiative. Hoppe has continued her relationship with SOMA as a member of the annual Summer Games management team.

While an undergraduate at the University of New Hampshire, Hoppe was an intern at the Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation with her focus being the Bay State Games. She was charged with scheduling and organizing the entertainment lineup for the Opening Ceremony while assisting in the planning of 25 sport competitions. In addition, Hoppe served as the coordinator for the Hall of Fame and managed the Bay State Games scholarship program.

A 2008 graduate of UNH, Hoppe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with a focus in Sports Studies along with minors in Business Administration and Psychology. She was a four-year member of the Wildcats’ track and field team and collected a pair of America East outdoor all-conference honors in the heptathlon.

Hoppe received a Master’s degree in Sport Leadership from Northeastern University in May 2016. Her professional development includes participation at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Women’s LeadHERship Symposium (2014, 2017), the Women Leaders in College Sports (formerly NACWAA) Women's Leadership Symposium (2015), and annual attendance at NCAA Regional Rules.
