Benjamin McElhiney joined the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation as the Director of Aquatics in 2004. He oversees the aquatic operations for one of the premier aquatic facilities in the northeast.
McElhiney is a 2005 graduate of Salem State University, with a bachelor’s degree in Sport and Movement Science concentrating in Aquatic Recreation Management. He is currently pursuing a graduate degree at Anna Maria College in the field of Emergency Management.
McElhiney has presented at several National Recreation and Park Association and National Intramural Recreation Sports Association conferences. In his free time, he serves as a civilian instructor for the Massachusetts State Police, is a State Lifeguard Examiner for the Department of Conservation and Recreation and volunteers for the Boston Marathon as a Medical First Responder. He has a strong history in the aquatic field and has been in and out of the water for the past 15 years.
