Jess Rooney Gallagher joined the MIT sports medicine staff in 2007 and is starting her 10th year working with the Engineers’ intercollegiate teams.  She coordinates care for women’s volleyball, men’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, women’s tennis, and rifle.

Rooney Gallagher graduated from Northeastern University in 2001 with a B.S in athletic training. She then continued her academic career with an E.d.M. in sports psychology from Boston University in 2003.

Rooney Gallagher joined the MIT staff after spending four years as the head athletic trainer for Campus Recreation at the University of New Hampshire.  During her tenure, she coordinated care for 26 club sports including rugby, wrestling, lacrosse, ice hockey, cycling, and Woodsmen. While at Boston University, she was a graduate assistant for Club Sports, providing care to women’s rugby, women’s ice hockey, gymnastics, and men’s lacrosse.

In addition to her athletic training and administrative responsibilities, Rooney Gallagher serves as a preceptor for Boston University’s Athletic Training Education Program, where she is responsible for supervising and mentoring athletic training students. She is also starting her fifth year of teaching at Lasell College for its Athletic Training Education Program. 

Rooney Gallagher is a licensed athletic trainer in Massachusetts and an active member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association (EATA), and the Athletic Trainers of Massachusetts (ATOM). She is on the executive board for ATOM in the role of membership representative. Rooney Gallagher is also on the Honors and Awards Committee for NATA, dedicated to the Athletic Trainer Service Award.
