CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three members of the MIT rifle team were honored recently when the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference announced its annual post season awards. Seniors Jennifer de Bruijn (Harare, Zimbabwe) and Nigel Kojimoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) along with junior Elizabeth Phillips (Anchorage, Alaska) were all named to the All-Academic team. It is the fourth consecutive year that MIT has placed at least three student-athletes on the All-Academic team.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Closing out its regular season by hosting the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference Championship, MIT’s rifle team came up with a strong outing to wind up the 2011-12 campaign. Paired against a Penn State squad in air rifle competition, the Engineers came away with a 2249-2229 victory over the Nittany Lions.
NEW LONDON, Conn. – In its last competition before hosting the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference Championships next weekend, the MIT rifle team tuned up for the big meet with a match at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy along with the Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Engineers made the most of the opportunity, shooting a team season best score in smallbore and its second best air rifle score of the season to defeat both the Bears and Leopards in each discipline.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Competing for the first time in nearly two months, the MIT rifle team hosted Penn State, Penn State ROTC, Coast Guard and the Wentworth Institute of Technology in the annual Beanpot competition. Penn State edged MIT for the Beanpot team title, edging the Engineers by 41 points.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its last action of the 2011 calendar year, the MIT Rifle team continued in its winning ways, picking up victories over the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and the Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Engineers, who swept both the air rifle and small bore competitions, downed the Buccaneers by a final of 4,354-3,827. It was closer against the Jaguars, but the result was the same, a 4,354-4,217 decision for MIT. The victories ran MIT's record to 14-2 this season
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Traveling on the road for the second time this season, the MIT rifle team made it two-for-two away from home with a win over Massachusetts Maritime Academy. The Engineers won both the smallbore and air rifle competitions to come away with a 4,356-3,844 victory. The victories ran MIT’s record to 10-2 this season.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT set an Institute record in air rifle as the Engineers split the overall matches with the U.S. Naval Academy and Wentworth Institute of Technology. MIT totaled 4,435 points, including the school record score of 2251 in air rifle. Navy took the competition with an overall score of 4,456, while Wentworth had a score of 4,150.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After a couple of weeks off, the MIT rifle team made its home debut this weekend a successful one. The Engineers hosted John Jay College and the Wentworth Institute of Technology and came away with the top scores in both the smallbore and air rifle competitions to sweep the matches, running its record to 6-0 for the season.
BRAINTREE, Mass. – It was a strong start to the 2011-12 season for the MIT rifle team today as the Engineers defeated Wentworth by a score of 4,323-4,207 in a match held at the Braintree Rifle and Pistol Club. MIT won both the smallbore (2,137-2,075) and air rifle (2,186-2,132) portions of the competition.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Melissa Mulloy-Mecozzi, a former collegiate All-American and participant in the 2000 Olympic Games, has been named the next head coach of the MIT rifle team, it was announced today by Director of Athletics, Julie Soriero. Mulloy-Mecozzi succeeds her father, Jerry, who was at the helm for the Engineers from 2001 through 2011.
