CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Elizabeth Phillips (Anchorage, Alaska) of the MIT rifle team was recently recognized by the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) as its Air Rifle Shooter of the Month for October. It is the first MAC Shooter of the Month award for Phillips during her career and the first for an Engineer since January of 2009.
Phillips has had an outstanding season as a senior, leading the team with her averages in both air rifle and small bore. In two matches in October she averaged 570.5 in air rifle, taking top individual honors in both matches. She has since raised her scores, including tying the MIT record with a 587 in November against SUNY Maritime. Her record-tying individual score also led the way for the Engineers to break the school record for a team air rifle score with a 2,264. A MAC All-Academic performer last season, Phillips is currently ranked fourth in the conference in air rifle average.
