CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Elizabeth Phillips (Anchorage, Alaska) and freshman Sarah Wright (Christchurch, New Zealand) earned postseason honors from the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference as the league announced is annual end of the season awards. Phillips was named first team all-conference in air rifle and Wright garnered a spot on the all-rookie squad. Phillips is just the third shooter from MIT to earn all-conference honors from the MAC, while Wright is the first Engineer to be named to the all-rookie team.
Phillips ranked fourth in the league with an average 579.33 in air rifle. Four times this season she eclipsed the 580 mark, setting a school record with a 587 in November and winning the individual title at the MAC Championships two weeks ago with a 586. Phillips is the only shooter from a non-Division I school to earn All-MAC honors in air rifle, with the other all-conference selections coming from Navy and Akron.
Wright had a solid first year for MIT, seeing action in every match for the Engineers. She finished second on the team in smallbore with her average of 550.4, setting a personal best of 561 against the University of the Sciences in November. Third on the squad in air rifle average at 557.8, she had her season best effort in that discipline at the MAC Championships where she turned in a 570.
