Wright, Goh Named to All-MAC Rifle Team
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Sarah Wright (Christchurch, New Zealand) and freshman Jia Yi Goh (Singapore) have both earned postseason honors from the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference, as the league announced is annual end of the season awards.

Wright Takes Smallbore Title at MAC Championships
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sophomore Sarah Wright (Christchurch, New Zealand) turned in an outstanding performance at the Mid Atlantic Rife Conference Championships, taking the individual title in the smallbore competition. She helped the Engineers to second place finishes in both smallbore and air rifle events at the annual championships.

Rifle Splits Match at Coast Guard
NEW LONDON, Conn. – MIT’s rifle team traveled to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy today for the NCAA Qualifier match and came away with a victory over the Bears in small bore, before dropping a close, 10-point decision in the air rifle competition. Overall the Engineers scored 4,445 points to 4,424 for the Bears.

MIT Shoots Its Way Past Maritime
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For a second straight day the MIT rifle team posted the top scores on the range and defeated SUNY Maritime in both small bore and air rifle. The Engineers out shot the Privateers 2162-2066 in small bore and bested them in air rifle 2258-2160.

Rifle Sweeps Past Maritime and Wentworth
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT posted team-high scores in both small bore and air rifle today as the Engineers’ rifle team scored victories over Maritime and Wentowrth. MIT outscored Maritime by a 2170-2061 margin in small bore, as well as posting a 2254 in air rifle to down both Maritime (2143) and Wentowrth (2040).

Record Scores Carry MIT Past VMI in Rifle
LEXINGTON, Va. – Numerous individual records and a school record team score in air rifle helped the MIT rifle team down a squad from the Virginia Military Institute by a final combined score of 4476-4458. The Keydets took the small bore competition, but despite difficulties with getting their equipment delivered in time for the match, the Engineers bounced back with a school record air rifle score of 2270 to take the overall title.

Engineers Rifle Team Captures Beanpot Competition
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Returning to action for the first time in 2014, the MIT rifle team came up with a number of career highs during the annual Beanpot competition this weekend, enough to carry the Engineers to the team title. MIT posted the top scores in both the small bore and air rifle disciplines on Saturday, putting up scores of 2,164 and 2,245 to edge out second-place Coast Guard. On Sunday MIT had the top air rifle score as well with a 2,246. Coast Guard posted the top smallbore score on the final day, a 2,167. Teams from Canisius, Penn State, Wentworth Institute of Technology and Penn State ROTC also took part in the competition. Posting rounds of 97 and 96 in the kneeling position of the smallbore competition on Saturday, senior Kaiying Liao (Issaquah, Wash.) went on to post a career-high 567 to lead MIT and all other shooters in the match. Liao just edged out Alexis Chavarria-Aguila from Coast Guard by six points for the individual title. Sophomore Sarah Wright (Christchurch, New Zealand) was third overall with a 555, including a round of 99 in the prone position. Freshman Kelly Mathesius (Aurora, Ill.) turned in a season-best of 524 and sophomore Abra Shen (Toronto, Ontario) fired a 519 for the Engineers, who edged Coast Guard by 20 points for the top smallbore score. On Sunday it was Wright who claimed top honors, posting a pair of 98s in the prone position on her way to a final total of 569. Chavarria-Aguila was the runner-up again, posting one score of 99 in the prone position to help her to a 565. Liao finished third overall for the Engineers with a 555, with Shen and Mathesius posting scores of 517 and 515 to round out the MIT scoring. Wright also had a round of 99 in the air rifle competition on Saturday as she tallied a career best total of 572 to tie with Coast Guard’s Nicholas Paisker for top individual honors. Chavarria-Aguila took third overall for the Bears with a 564. Just one point behind was MIT’s Liao and freshman Jia Yi Goh (Singapore) with their 563’s, while Shen turned in a career-high with her effort of 547. In the team scoring it was another close one, with the Engineers again edging out the Bears, 2,245 to 2,237. Goh claimed the top spot on Sunday, seeing all of her rounds score at least 93 points on her way to a 574. Wright was second, duplicating her Saturday effort with another 572. Chavarria-Aguila claimed third overall for Coast Guard with a 569. Liao fired a 551, with Shen upping her career best again with a 549. Mathesius also recorded a season best in air rifle with her total of 524 on Saturday and added another season best in air rifle on Sunday with a 534. Freshman Kevin Ng (Coral Springs, Fla.) also shot for the Engineers, posting a season best with a 480 in smallbore on Saturday. Sophomore Christopher Rogers (Levittown, N.Y.) also competed for MIT, posting a season-high of 499 in smallbore on Saturday. Senior Vanya Britto (Redding, Calif.) also set a new career-high for the Engineers, firing off a 500 in air rifle on Sunday.

Liao Named MAC Air Rifle Shooter of the Month
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Kaiying Liao (Issaquah, Wash.) of the MIT rifle team was recently recognized by the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) as its Air Rifle Shooter of the Month for October. It is the first monthly honor for Liao in her career for the Engineers.

MIT Rifle Downs University of the Sciences
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Competing at the University of the Sciences for a second straight day, the MIT rifle team picked up two more wins against the Devils, this time downing their women’s team by a combined score of 4,290-3,908. Senior Kaiying Liao (Issaquah, Wash.) won the air rifle and was second in the small bore events to help the Engineers to the wins.

Wright Leads MIT Past the University of the Sciences
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Shooting away from home for the first time this season, the MIT rifle team defeated the University of the Sciences, 4,316-3,911, today. Sophomore Sarah Wright (Christchurch, New Zealand) fired a career best 575 in the small bore competition to lead the Engineers.

Rifle Defeats John Jay and Wentworth, Falls to Rose Hulman
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT had a good day on the rifle range as the Engineers hosted teams from John Jay College, Rose Hulman Institute of Technology and the Wentworth Institute of Technology at the MIT Shooting Center. The Engineers came away with wins against John Jay and Wentworth, but fell in close scores to Rose Hulman in both small bore and air rifle. Rose Hulman totaled a 4434 to take top overall honors, followed by MIT with 4343 and John Jay with 4242.

Rose Hulman Edges Past MIT
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a battle of engineering schools, MIT took on the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology on Friday night at the MIT Shooting Center. In a close one the Fightin’ Engineers from Indiana edged the Engineers in both small bore and air rifle to take a slim 4417-4377 win. Sophomore Sarah Wright (Christchurch, New Zealand) took top individual honors in the small bore competition for MIT.

MIT Rifle Opens Season With Victory over Wentworth
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It was a successful start to the 2013-14 season for the MIT rifle team as the Engineers downed the Wentworth Institute of Technology. The two teams competed in just the air rifle event, with MIT coming out on top by a score of 2,184-1,873.
