Wright Leads MIT Past the University of the Sciences
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Shooting away from home for the first time this season, the MIT rifle team defeated the University of the Sciences, 4,316-3,911, today. Sophomore Sarah Wright (Christchurch, New Zealand) fired a career best 575 in the small bore competition to lead the Engineers.
Wright fired a 99 and a 98 in the prone rounds of the small bore event on her way to the 575, the top score among all competitors. Senior Kaiying Liao (Issaquah, Wash.) had the second highest score in the meet for the Engineers, totaling a 548 that was just two off her previous personal best. Sophomore Abra Shen (Toronto, Ontario) turned in a 512 for MIT, while fellow sophomore Helen Liu (Cortland, N.Y.) completed the scoring with a 482, another season best for the Engineers.
In air rifle Liao edged out Sam Fowler from the University of the Sciences by three points for the top score with a 567. Wright finished right behind the pair in third overall with her score of 562. Freshman Kevin Ng (Coral Springs, Fla.) and sophomore Eeway Hsu (Menlo Park, Calif.) both had season best scores to complete the scoring for MIT, turning in totals of 536 and 534.
