CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Kaiying Liao (Issaquah, Wash.) of the MIT rifle team was recently recognized by the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) as its Air Rifle Shooter of the Month for October. It is the first monthly honor for Liao in her career for the Engineers.
Liao turned in an outstanding fall season for the MIT rifle team in October as she competed in all five competitions. MIT's captain started the year with by shooting at least a 90 in every round but two over the first three outings of the season, with a high of 96 in a match against Rose Hulman, Wentworth and John Jay. She then stepped it up a notch in the final two matches of the fall season at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. There Liao fired off two scores of 567, including one round of 97, to claim top honors in air rifle in both matches. The scores were just three off her career best set last season.
