CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT posted team-high scores in both small bore and air rifle today as the Engineers' rifle team scored victories over Maritime and Wentowrth. MIT outscored Maritime by a 2170-2061 margin in small bore, as well as posting a 2254 in air rifle to down both Maritime (2143) and Wentowrth (2040).
Sophomore Sarah Wright (Christchurch, New Zealand) led the way in small bore competition, firing off a 560. Just behind her was senior Kaiying Liao (Issaquah, Wash.) who carded a 552 for the Engineers, with sophomore Abra Shen (Toronto, Ontario) setting a new career best with a 537 and freshman Kelly Mathesius (Aurora, Ill.) rounding out the scores with a 521.
Freshman Jia Yi Goh (Singapore) posted the top score for the Engineers in air rifle, registering a 572 over her six rounds of shooting. Wright was just three points behind with her 569, a score that was just five points shy of her career best. Liao had a 560 for the Engineers, with Shen closing out the team scoring for MIT with a 553.
