CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For a second straight day the MIT rifle team posted the top scores on the range and defeated SUNY Maritime in both small bore and air rifle. The Engineers out shot the Privateers 2162-2066 in small bore and bested them in air rifle 2258-2160.
As she did on Saturday, sophomore Sarah Wright (Christchurch, New Zealand) led the way in small bore with a 568 that included rounds of 98 and 99 in the prone position. Senior Kaiying Liao (Issaquah, Wash.) fired off two rounds of 96 on her way to a 547 for the Engineers, with sophomore Christopher Rogers (Levittown, N.Y.) adding a 524 and sophomore Abra Shen (Toronto, Ontario) just a point behind at 523. Bradley Boomhower topped Maritime with a 540.
Freshman Jia Yi Goh (Singapore) scored at least a 94 in her air rifle rounds to finish with a match-high score of 578. Just behind her at 573 was Wright, who fired a 99 as a part of her score in the second round. MIT went on to sweep the top four spots in the competition, with Liao finishing third with her 560 and Shen fourth with a 547. Dan Srahhan posted the top score for the Privateers with a 541.
