CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT rifle team took on the U.S. Coast Guard Academy over the weekend in its final match of the season before the Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship in three weeks. The Engineers swept the host Bears in both guns, winning 2216-2191 in smallbore to go along with a 2252-2215 decision in air rifle.
Junior Emily Houston was Tech’s most impressive shooter on the day. Houston posted the high score of the day with the air rifle with a 577. Her score of 563 in the smallbore category was just one point behind Coast Guard’s Charles Ressel’s top mark.
The Cardinal and Grey will now look forward to the MAC Championship, which will be held on Sunday, March 7, hosted by the Virginia Military Academy. MIT defeated Penn State in the Expert Division of air rifle at last year’s Championship.
