Twenty Teams Come to Cambridge for Midweek Technical Regatta

Cambridge, Mass. – Six Boston-area schools were represented at this Thursday's midweek regatta, hosted by the sailing team at MIT. The Engineers had four squads compete and the best finish was by junior Tevis Nichols and freshman Emma Benjaminson who grabbed sixth place.

Neil Forrester and Leo Zhou came in at eighth position on 54 points as the best two Engineers boats sandwiched a team from Tufts University, who also had a pair take fifth position.

MIT's Mark Van de Loo and Vivek Disari sailed to a 14th position finish with a 74 point score, while the freshman pair of  Matthew Timbs and Ben Shaya took 17th place.

The top two boats, both sailed by Northeastern Huskies, dominated the competition with the winning pair taking only 11 points in six races. The Harvard Crimson were 24 points back in third place, followed by a boat sailed by students from Brandeis University.

Twenty boats enjoyed blustery conditions on the Charles River in a 12-30 knot southerly. Techs with storm sails were used along with a no-gybe course. Six races were completed without a boat rotation.
