BOSTON, Mass. – The MIT sailing team came away with a seventh place finish over the weekend, competing at the Boston University Trophy. The event featured 14 schools from New England, competing in 14 races in FJ boats over the course of Saturday and Sunday.
Sophomores Stephen Drapcho and Eben Freeman took eighth place in the A division, sailing all fourteen reaces. They amassed 98 points, with their two best finishes being third place showings. The A Division boat also had three fourth place finishes and one fifth place result. Their three11th place finishes were the only time that Drapcho and Freeman failed to place in the top 10.
Tevis Nichols and Iris Xu handled the first six races for the Engineer's B-Division boat, which totaled 107 points for a 7th place finish. Xu and Nichols managed three fifth place finishes before being replaced by freshman Hanna Vincent and senior Claire DeRosa. The pair managed another fifth place finish, as well as a sixth place showing for their best results.
Boston University edged Tufts Unviersity in the B-Division and tied with Coast Guard in the A-Division to emerge with the victory. The Bears took second place, with the Jumbos finishing third.
