CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The nationally-ranked No. 14 MIT coed sailing team finished in third place out of 13 squads at the NEISA Central Series hosted by the Engineers this past weekend. No. 1 Roger Williams University won the regatta with a score of 102, followed by Bowdoin College (104), the Cardinal and Gray (110), and No. 6 Brown (111).
Senior skipper Tevis Nichols (Skylonder, Calif.) and junior crew Taylor Burfield (Naples, Fla.) secured second place in the A Division behind the strength of 11 top-five finishes in 13 rotations. The pair won the first, 11th, and 13th races, were runner-ups in the fifth and seventh rounds, and claimed third on three occasions.
Freshmen skippers Laura Dunphy (Shelburne, Vt.) and Zack Drach (Wilmington, N.C.) collaborated with sophomore Keren Gu (Bowie, Md.) and freshman Sara Falcone (Anchorage, Alaska) to finish fourth in the B Division. The quartet was second in the third rotation, ranked third in the first, second, and seventh rounds, and placed fourth in four races.
MIT is slated to compete in the Boston Dinghy Cup, Women's Duplin Trophy Team Race, and BU Bridge Invitational this weekend.
