Sailing Finishes 14th at ICSA Coed National Championship
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In the program’s first appearance at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Coed National Championship since 2008, the nationally-ranked No. 12 MIT sailing team ended the three-day competition in 14th place on Thursday afternoon. The College of Charleston took top honors, finishing 20 points ahead of Georgetown as Dartmouth claimed third place.

Sailing Collects All-NEISA Coed Accolades
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second year in a row, the MIT coed sailing team received multiple placements on the All-New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Teams. Senior Andrew Sommer (Duxbury, Mass.) was selected to the Skipper Second Team for the second straight season and was named the NEISA Sportsman of the Year, an award that is voted upon by the competitors. Classmate Philip Crain (Houston, Texas) was also tabbed to the Skipper Second Team while senior Steven Drapcho (Newtown, Pa.) rounded out the Engineers with a spot on the Crews Second Team.

MIT Competes in New England Team Race Championship
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Vying for the Fowle Trophy at the New England Team Race Championship, the nationally-ranked No. 12 MIT coed sailing team placed 11th out of 11 squads this past weekend. Brown won the event and will be joined by Boston College, Roger Williams University, and Yale at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) APS Team Racing National Championship at the end of the month.

Coed Sailing Claims New National Ranking
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On the heels of its outstanding performance at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Dinghy Championship Western Semifinal this past weekend, the MIT coed sailing team moved up two spots to No. 12 in the latest Sperry – Top Sider College Rankings.

Lepert and Xu Earn All-NEISA Women's Sailing Accolades
MEDFORD, Mass. – For the first time since 2009, the nationally-ranked No. 12 MIT women’s sailing team received plaudits from the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) as sophomore Chloe Lepert (Belmont, Calif.) and junior Iris Xu (Madison, Wis.) were voted to the All-NEISA Women’s Team. Lepert was tabbed to the Skipper Second Team while Xu was placed on the Crews Second Team.

MIT Coed Sailing Team Qualifies for ICSA National Championship
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – With a fourth-place finish at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Dinghy Championship Western Semifinal, the nationally-ranked No. 14 MIT coed sailing team secured a spot in the ICSA Gill Dinghy National Championship to be held May 28-30 at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla. The appearance will be the first for the Engineers since 2008 when they captured sixth place. In other action, the No. 12 women’s team ranked 11th at the New England Championship, finishing two spots shy of qualifying for the national semifinals, while MIT placed fifth at the coed George Morris Trophy.

Engineers Host Final Midweek Firefly Invitational
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its final home competition of the season, the nationally-ranked No. 14 MIT coed sailing team provided six entries in the MIT Midweek Firefly Invitational on Thursday afternoon. The Engineers claimed spots 11 through 16 out of 16 boats while Tufts University captured first, second, and third place.

New Sailing National Rankings Announced as MIT Prepares for Postseason Action
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the most recent Sperry – Top Sider College Rankings, the MIT women’s sailing team inched up a spot to No. 12 while the coed unit slipped to No. 14. The announcement comes as the Engineers begin their postseason run at a pair of championship events this weekend.

No. 11 Coed Sailing Qualifies for ICSA National Semifinals
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The nationally-ranked No. 11 MIT coed sailing team earned a spot at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association National Semifinal Dinghy Championship by finishing in seventh place at the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Dinghy Championship this past weekend. The Engineers will travel to Norfolk, Va. to compete in the postseason regatta hosted by Hampton University on April 27-28. In additional action, MIT’s coed unit captured sixth place at the Oberg Trophy while the No. 13 women’s team was 11th at the Emily Wick Trophy.

MIT Competes in Midweek Firefly Invite
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - With six entries in the Midweek Firefly Invite, the MIT sailing team captured 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, and 17th place out of 18 boats on Tuesday afternoon. Tufts University claimed the top two spots while Northeastern was third.

Sailing Has Solid Showing at Trio of Regattas
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The nationally-ranked No. 11 MIT coed sailing team captured ninth place at the Marchiando/Friis Trophy and third at the Central Series Three while the No. 13 women’s team claimed eighth place at the President’s Trophy this past weekend.

Coed Sailing Moves Up, Women's Team Returns to National Rankings
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Following several impressive performances during the past two weekends, the MIT sailing teams were rewarded with new spots in the Sperry Top Sider College Rankings. The coed squad jumped up two spots to No. 11 while the women returned to the poll, landing at No. 13.

Women's Sailing Captures Ninth at Dellenbaugh Trophy
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In its only event of the weekend, the MIT women’s sailing team placed ninth out of 18 teams at the Brad Dellenbaugh Trophy hosted by Brown University. Yale University took top honors, followed by Navy, and Boston College.

MIT Sailing Finishes Second at Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a full weekend of action, the nationally-ranked No. 14 coed sailing team captured second place at the Boston Dinghy Challenge Cup and sixth place at Central Series Two. The women’s squad, meanwhile, was seventh at the Joseph Duplin Trophy Team Race.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the latest Sperry – Top Sider College Rankings, the MIT coed sailing team was voted 13th as announced by Sailing World this week. Previously ranked No. 14, the Engineers continued their season-long presence in the national poll.

No. 15 Coed Sailing Participates at Truxton Umsted Trophy and Central Series One
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – This past weekend, the nationally-ranked No. 15 MIT coed sailing team captured 11th place out of 20 teams at the two-day Truxton Umsted Trophy while its two entries at Saturday’s Central Series One finished sixth and seventh.

No. 13 Women's Sailing Finishes 10th at Navy Intersectional
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Competing at the Women’s Spring Intersectional this past weekend at the U.S. Naval Academy, the nationally-ranked No. 13 MIT women’s sailing team captured 10th place out of 20 teams. The Engineers registered the third best performance from the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association as the University of Vermont finished third, followed by No. 1 Yale University in fourth. The host Midshipmen won the event while St. Mary’s College (Md.) was the runner-up.

MIT Competes at Sharpe Trophy and Women’s Interconference Regatta
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The nationally-ranked No. 13 MIT coed sailing team kicked off the spring season this past weekend by capturing third place at the Sharpe Trophy while the No. 11 women’s squad finished in seventh place at the Women’s Interconference Regatta.

Sailing Secures National Rankings at Start of Spring Season
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the first Sperry – Top Sider College Rankings of the spring season, the MIT women’s sailing team placed 11th while the co-ed squad was tied for 13th. A member of the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association, the women’s poll featured eight squads from the conference as the co-ed side claimed nine spots.

MIT Sailing Finishes 10th at Rose Bowl Regatta
LONG BEACH, Calif. – In its return to the Rose Bowl Regatta following a four-year hiatus, the nationally-ranked No. 11 MIT coed sailing team captured 10th place out of 30 entries this past weekend. Stanford University won the event while conference foes Boston College and Roger Williams University ranked third and eighth, respectively.

Women's Sailing Moves Up in Final Fall Rankings
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Bolstered by its sixth-place finish at the Women’s Atlantic Coast Championship, the MIT women’s sailing team jumped up two spots to No. 9 in the final Sperry – Top Sider College Rankings of the fall season. The co-ed squad, meanwhile, closed the first half of its campaign at No. 11.

Engineers Secure Sixth Place at Women's Atlantic Coast Championship
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The nationally-ranked No. 11 MIT women’s sailing team closed out the fall season in fine form by capturing sixth place out of 18 squads at the Women’s Atlantic Coast Championship this past weekend. Meanwhile, the No. 10 coed team was fourth in the NEISA Top 8 Regatta, an event that filled the void following the cancellation of the Atlantic Coast Championship due to the lingering impact of Hurricane Sandy on host U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

MIT Hosts Dark of Night Invitational
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT sailing team finished ninth and 11th out of 13 teams in the fourth annual Dark of Night Invitational on Thursday. The Engineers squared off with three squads from Tufts University, two from Northeastern and New Hampshire, and entries from Brown, Brandeis University, Connecticut, and Johnson & Wales University.

Women’s Sailing Team Debuts in National Rankings
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Following its outstanding performance at the Victorian Coffee Urn and subsequent qualification to the Women’s Atlantic Coast Championship, the MIT women’s sailing team was voted No. 11 in the latest Sperry – Top Sider College Rankings as announced by Sailing World. The ranking is the first for the Engineers this season while on the co-ed side MIT slipped one spot to No. 10 this week.

MIT Has Another Successful Weekend on the Charles
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Competing in three events this past weekend, the nationally-ranked No. 9 MIT sailing team finished second and seventh at the Crews Regatta, fifth at the Professor NoRinger Regatta, and eighth at the Hap Moore Team Race. The final tune-up for the Engineers before heading into postseason action will be the Dark of Night Invitational on Thursday, Nov. 8.

Sailing Secures Postseason Bids Following Outstanding Weekend
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT women’s sailing team captured fourth place at the Victorian Coffee Urn while the nationally-ranked No. 9 coed squad was fifth at the Erwin Schell Trophy, guaranteeing both teams spots in their respective Atlantic Coast Championships to be held November 10-11. The Engineers’ success continued at the freshman only Nickerson Trophy where they finished eighth out of 19 teams.

MIT Sailing Moves Up in National Rankings
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On the heels of its victory at the Hoyt Trophy, the MIT coed sailing team jumped up to No. 9 in the latest Sperry – Top Sider College Rankings as announced by Sailing World earlier this week. Previously, ranked No. 13, the Engineers continued their steady climb up the standings since beginning the season in the No. 16 slot.

Engineers Receive Trio of ICSA All-Academic Team Honors
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior skipper Andrew Sommer (Duxbury, Mass.) along with former teammates Eamon Glackin ’12 and Steph Tong ’12 were named to the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) All-Academic Team. Sommer and Tong earned spots on the first team while Glackin received his second straight second-team nod, increasing MIT’s total to 13 accolades in the five-year history of the award.

Crain and Drapcho Collect NEISA Honors
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Seniors Philip Crain (Houston, Texas) and Steven Drapcho (Newtown, Pa.) were named Coed Sailors of the Week by the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association following their victory in the B Division of the Sherman Hoyt Trophy. Their performance helped nationally-ranked No. 13 MIT clinch first place in the regatta held last weekend at Brown University.

Sailing Captures Hoyt Trophy
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Competing against several of the top sailing teams from around the country, nationally-ranked No. 13 MIT won the Hoyt Trophy while the women’s squad secured sixth place at the Stu Nelson Trophy. The Engineers rounded out the weekend by placing 14th at the Oberg Trophy.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT sailing team provided six of the seven entries in its Midweek Fly Invite held on Wednesday afternoon. The nationally-ranked No. 13 Engineers secured second through seventh place while racing in a fleet of the New Collegiate Fireflies.

MIT Participates in Pair of Regattas
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The nationally-ranked No. 13 MIT sailing team saw one of its three entries win the Firefly and FJ Invitational while it finished 15th overall at the Yale Women’s Intersectional held this past weekend. The remaining participants in the Firefly and FJ Invitational ranked 11th and 14th out of 17 squads.

Sailing World Releases Updated National Rankings
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT coed sailing team moved up one spot in the latest Sperry – Top Sider College Rankings as announced by Sailing World earlier this week. Now ranked No. 13, the Engineers have steadily climbed up the standings since beginning the season in the No. 16 slot.

No. 14 Sailing Competes at NEISA Match Racing Championship
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The nationally-ranked No. 14 MIT sailing team captured fifth place in the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Match Racing Championship and was 15th in the Moody Trophy, both of which were held this past weekend despite facing poor wind conditions on Sunday.

No. 14 MIT Earns Runner-up Finish at Smith Trophy
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The nationally-ranked No. 14 MIT sailing team recorded its best outings to date as it was the runner-up at the Smith Trophy and also captured third place at the Danmark Trophy. In addition, junior Hanna Vincent (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and freshman Rosalind Lesh (Everson, Wash.) represented the Engineers at the Women’s New England Singlehanded Championship.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A total of six boats represented the nationally-ranked No. 14 MIT sailing team in its home Midweek Tech Invite on Thursday afternoon. Of 20 entries, the Engineers placed ninth, 11th, 13th, 17th, 18th, and 20th.

No. 15 Engineers Battle in Four Sailing Regattas
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The nationally-ranked No. 15 MIT sailing team took part in the Men’s New England Singlehanded Championship, St. Mary’s Intersectional, Hood Trophy, and Regis Bowl this past weekend. Senior Philip Crain (Houston, Texas) led the Engineers’ three-man contingent at the New England Singlehanded Championship with a sixth-place performance while the best team showing was ninth place at the St. Mary’s Intersectional.

No. 15 Sailing Continues Solid Start to Season
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – This past weekend, nationally-ranked No. 15 MIT hosted the Hatch Brown Trophy and also sent sailors to the Mrs. Hurst Bowl and the FJ Invitational. The Engineers secured ninth place in their home event while placing 12th at the Mrs. Hurst Bowl and second and ninth at the FJ Invitational.

No. 16 MIT Sailing Has Impressive Opening Weekend
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its first action of the 2012-13 season, the nationally-ranked No. 16 MIT sailing team placed ninth at the Harry Anderson Trophy, first and fourth at the FJ Invitational, fifth in the Toni Deutsch ‘58 Regatta, and fifth at the Pine Trophy.

Sailing Announces Class of 2016
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT sailing team will welcome eight new members for the 2012-13 season, co-head coach Matt Lindblad announced. Included in the Class of 2016 are student-athletes from seven states who have recorded outstanding performances on the national stage.
