Engineers Sail in Two Regattas

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – This past weekend, the No. 11 MIT women's sailing team finished 11th at the Navy Women's Fall Intersectional while the No. 15 coed squad was sixth at the New England Match Race Championship.

Representing the Engineers in the C Division of the Navy Intersectional, sophomore Robyn Lesh (Everson, Wash.) captured third place out of 18 competitors. She amassed 17 top-10 placements through 18 rotations, including a trio of victories and third-place finishes. Junior Laura Dunphy (Shelburne, Vt.) along with sophomores Lisa Sukharev-Chuyan (Temple, N.H.) and Jamila Smith-Dell (Cambridge, Mass.) claimed 12th place in the B Division as they entered the top 10 on nine occasions highlighted by a victory in the last race, a runner-up performance in the second-to-last rotation, and three sixth-place finishes. In the A Division, senior Hanna Vincent (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and sophomore Elizabeth Zhang (Lexington, Mass.) won the second round, finished sixth in the 12 rotation, and captured seventh place in three outings en route to 15th overall.

Sophomores David Larson (La Jolla, Calif.) and Joe Paggi (Bayville, N.J.) collaborated with junior Chloe Lepert (Belmont, Calif.) to finish sixth out of eight teams at the New England Match Race Championship.
