Coed Sailing Closes out Season at New England Dinghy Championship

NEWPORT, R.I. – In its final outing of the season, the nationally ranked No. 19 MIT coed sailing team finished 12th out of 18 teams at the New England Dinghy Championship hosted by Salve Regina University this past weekend. Brown University took top honors with 184 points, edging out the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (185), and Yale University (188).

Powered by junior David Larson (La Jolla, Calif.), freshman Ty Ingram (White Plains, N.Y.), junior Paige Omura (Honolulu, Hawaii), sophomore Jordan Ladd (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands), and senior Chloe Lepert (Belmont, Calif.), the Engineers' B division squad placed eighth after recording eight top-10 performances. The group won the ninth and 10th rounds, was third in the 11th race and then captured fifth in their next outing. The A Division contingent, comprised of sophomore Alec Stewart (Duxbury, Mass.), junior Lisa Sukharev-Chuyan (Temple, N.H.), Lepert, and Ladd, ranked 12th on the strength of eight top-10 placements. MIT won the fifth rotation, was the runner-up in the fourth race, and secured fifth place in the 10th and 12th rounds.
