CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (May 2) – After qualifying for the Intercollegiate Sailing Association's (ICSA) Team Race National Championship a couple of weeks ago and taking 11th at the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association's (NEISA) Coed Championship this past weekend, three Engineers of the No. 4 ranked MIT coed sailing team have been honored with postseason awards from NEISA.
Sophomore Sameena Shaffeeullah (Danbury, Conn.) was named as a finalist for the Babineau Trophy, which recognizes the NEISA Crew of the Year, and was also selected to the All-NEISA Crews First Team. Additionally, junior Ty Ingram (White Plains, N.Y.) was named to the All-NEISA Skippers First Team for his performance this spring, while senior Paige Omura (Honolulu, Hawaii) rounded out her collegiate career with a spot on the All-NEISA Crews Second Team for the second time in as many years.
MIT and the coed sailing team will be heading down to the ICSA Team Race National Championship for the first time in program history, which will take place in Charleston, South Carolina from May 27 through May 29, 2017.
