ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Freshman star skipper Phil Crain put in the best effort for the MIT sailing team, finishing ninth out of 20 entries in ‘D’ Division, while the Engineers placed 15th overall at the Truxtun Umsted Trophy hosted by St. Mary’s College this past weekend.

Crain particularly shined in the last three races among the 17 total, when he finished fifth, sixth, and third, solidifying the divisional ninth spot over rival Harvard, which ranked eighth overall.

A-Division skipper Brooks Reed and crew Karlen Ruleman and Regula Granger finished 11th in their circuit, while the B and C groups slotted 15th and 18th.

Georgetown University won the event with a score of 372, while Yale University, Boston College, University of Charleston, and St. Mary’s round out the top five.
