CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT sailing team placed a stunning seventh out of 18 teams at the Oberg Trophy this past weekend. One week after shining in C-Division at the Boston Dinghy Trophy, skipper Josh Leighton and crew Leigh Casadaban led the higher 'A' team to an even better finish. The duo slotted fifth after ranking seventh in last week's event, in which the Engineers placed 13th overall.
Amid sunny skies during Saturday's 10 rounds, Leighton and Casadaban finished in the top-five four times, before adding four more like performances in Sunday's cloudier conditions. With breezes reaching 10 knots from the northeast on both days, Tech's terrific tandem beat out tough competition, including neighboring foe Tufts University and host Northeastern University.
While the `B' group never quite got on track, it did chime in with a pair of first-place finishes in the first day's middle rounds. The lower circuit placed 11th overall.
Harvard University won the event with a score of 153.
MIT will host the Marchiando/Friis Trophy next weekend along the Charles River.
