CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Battling chilly temperatures, light rain and gusts that reached 18-20 knots, the B-Division team of skipper Jamie Curran and crew Gina Fridley propelled the MIT sailing squad into ninth place out of 16 teams at the President's Trophy hosted by Boston University this past weekend.
Curran and Fridley placed seventh in their circuit, posting three top-five finishes during Sunday's six rounds. The duo's best marks on the second day were a pair of third-place slots in the seventh and final jousts. However, Curran and Fridley also ranked first in the third race on Saturday, after finishing a strong fifth in the opening round.
The A-Division team struggled, finishing in an uncharacteristic 11th place.
Overall, MIT's score of 166 was good enough to beat out University of Vermont and cross-town foe Tufts University, which closed at 180 and 202, respectively.
Yale University won the event with a score of 86.
