Top-Notch Engineers Freeze Third in Friis Trophy

April 9, 2007

MEDFORD, Mass. - Battling strong westerly winds with rapid shifts, MIT placed a strong third out of eight teams at the Friis Trophy on Sunday.

With cold temperatures bursting through jib windows and a few tiller extension fittings, the Engineers finished a stunning 6-1 in the opening round robin of 28 tilts, before going 1-2 in the final four finale.

Leading the way for MIT were skippers Jack Field, Jake Muhleman, and Brooks Reed, and crews Wyman Li, Sunny Wicks, and Sylvia Yang. The stellar group beat out tough competition, including Brown University and Boston University.

Tufts University hosted the event, racing its rounds on Saturday among eight teams.

MIT will compete in the BU Trophy next weekend.
