Engineers Reign 12th at Boston University Trophy

April 16, 2007

BOSTON, Mass. - B-Division skipper Chuck Head and crew Ashley Cantieny placed a solid ninth out of 20 entries, as MIT finished 12th overall at the Boston University Trophy this past weekend.

Facing shifty northwest winds of 4-14 knots, Head and Cantieny slotted fourth and sixth in the second and fifth rounds, respectively. The pair of strong placements during Saturday's six races set the stage for Sunday's final two jousts in rainy, cold conditions. Head and Cantieny held the fort, placing sixth again in the last tilt.

The Engineers didn't fare as well in A-Division, mustering only three top-10 rankings in the higher circuit.

Overall, however, the Cardinal and Gray placed higher than tough foes Yale University (13th) and Brandeis University (14th).

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy won the event with a score of 52.

MIT also finished ninth out of 15 entries at Moody Trophy hosted by event-winner University of Rhode Island.

The Engineers got a solid eighth-place showing from A-Division skipper Jake Muhleman and crew Karlen Ruleman. The duo finished in the top-five in three of the seven rounds, including a first-place slot in the sixth race.

Originally scheduled for two days, the event ran only on Saturday, due to high winds and rain squalls on Sunday.
