Sailors Bound for ICSA Dinghy National Championship

April 28, 2008

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT sailing team has qualified for the Inter-collegiate Sailing Association (ISCA) Gill Coed Dinghy National Championship in Newport, R.I. on June 2-4. For the first time since 2003, the Engineers earned a berth by placing a solid fifth place out of 18 teams at the ISCA Western Semifinal hosted by the University of Southern California this past weekend.

Leading the Engineers were B-Division skipper Brooks Reed and crew Ellie Hass, who finished third in their circuit. Senior co-captains Jack Field and Julie Arsenault battled a difficult fleet to finish ninth in A-Division, with Josh Leighton and Karlen Ruleman subbing for two races.

"This wasn't just an accomplishment for the six sailors who sailed at Long Beach, this was an accomplishment for the entire team," said MIT coach Matt Lindblad.
