Sept. 22, 2008
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Feeding off a strong fourth-place finish by B-Division skipper Josh Leighton and crew Vicki Lee, the host MIT sailing team placed ninth overall out of 18 teams at the Hatch Brown Trophy this past weekend.
Racing amid a light sea breeze throughout the two-day event, Leighton and Lee finished in the top five in seven of their 12 rounds along the Charles River. Only once did Tech’s dazzling duo rank worse than 10th.
A-Division skipper Brooks Reed and crew Ellie Hass slotted ninth, with their best finish a third-place mark in the 11th joust.
MIT also placed 13th in C-Division.
Boston College won the event with a score of 155. Rounding out the top five were Yale University, Boston University, US Naval Academy, and St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
MIT will compete in the Hood Trophy next weekend in Medford.
