CAMBRIDGE, Mass - Boosted by B-Division tandem Gabriel Cira and Karlen Ruleman, the MIT sailing team finished a respectable sixth out of 11 teams, Saturday, in the Metro Series Five. Cira, the skipper, and crew Ruleman placed in the front five in all but two of the tightly-raced eight rounds to slot third and offset Tech's sub-par ninth ranking in A-Division.

Amid soggy conditions with a pleasant southwest shifty breeze at 5-10 knots, the Tech twosome saved their best for last with a first place mark in the final race, edging out Division I foe Boston University, the event's overall fourth-place finisher. Cira and Ruleman also beat the Terriers by two marks overall in their division.

But the Engineers were on their game early on, too, with winds blowing at a slightly stronger 12-15 knots for most of the afternoon. Cira and Ruleman began the day placing fourth in the first joust, before slotting third in round three. In the fourth race, the duo finished a proud second, one better than Dartmouth, the Regatta's overall second-place achiever.

While A-Division struggled, the team of Ben Stewart and Ellan Cohen delivered strong performances in a pair of late rounds, placing third and fifth in the sixth and seven races, respectively.
