CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - With clear skies and a crisp autumn breeze swirling along the Charles River, MIT edged out Roger Williams University for first place at the Metro Series Five at Boston University Saturday. Tech finished with a score of 39, two better than the Hawks, who punched in at 41. Among the seven other New England entries MIT rose above were rivals Harvard University (53), BU (59), and Tufts University (62).
Skippers Ben Stewart and Chuck Head and crews Julie Arsenault and Karlen Ruleman paced the Cardinal and Gray to 11 top three slots among the 14 rounds raced between divisions A and B. Stewart and Arsenault finished first with a score of 17 in leading Tech's higher circuit, while Head and Ruleman tallied a 22 to finish second for the `B' team.
The Engineers, ranked eighth in the Sailing World national rankings, will next appear in the Boston University Invitational on Sunday.
