NEW LONDON, Conn. - Enduring shifty westerly winds that built to 15 knots, MIT finished fifth out of 18 entries at the Stu Nelson Trophy this past weekend.
B-Division skipper Ellan Cohen and crew Rachel Licht placed fifth during the two-day event hosted by Connecticut College. With six of the 10 rounds raced on Saturday, the duo placed eighth on the first day, then raised its game on Sunday with three top-five finishes in the last four tilts.
The `A' team of skipper Libby Palmer and crew Ashley Cantieny finished sixth overall, staging its best effort on Saturday, when it ranked third during the higher circuit's eight rounds.
Overall, MIT bested rivals Harvard University and Tufts University, which finished sixth and eighth, respectively.
University of Rhode Island won the event with a score of 113.
MIT will host the Erwin Schell Trophy next weekend.
