Squash Storms Back with 9-0 Win over Fordham
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Turning the tables
after suffering five straight setbacks, the MIT squash team
reversed the score in its favor with a sound 9-0 win over visiting
Fordham University this past weekend. The Engineers improved to the
3-10, while the Rams fell to 0-10.
MIT swept all but two of its matches, with Andrew Yoon, Michael
Zomnir, George Pratt, John Kucharczyk, Joey Lemberg, Sunny Long,
and William Souillard-Mandar doing the honors. Playing in the No. 1
slot, Yoon defeated Colin Corbet, 11-5, 11-3, 11-6. Zomnir, at No.
3, took Eli Plangger, 11-6, 11-7, 11-3, while Pratt dropped Jim
Lechleitner, 11-2, 11-5, 11-8, in the No. 4 position.
The Engineers continued to roll, as Kucharczyk swept Andrew
Grosner, 11-5, 11-3, 11-5, in the No. 6 spot. In the next slot,
Lemberg defeated Ken Fukumoto, 11-6, 11-7, 12-10. Long, at No.8,
took Chris Souther, 11-8, 11-3, 11-1, while Souillard-Mandar won,
11-5, 11-2, 11-3, over Andrew Craig in the final position.
Austin Anderson and Connor Kirshbaum each won their tilts by 3-1
margins. In the No. 2 spot, Anderson defeated Andsiy Kulak, 11-5,
9-11, 11-5, 11-2, as Kirschbaum, at No. 6, took Nick Reed, 11-4,
11-8, 9-11, 11-9.
MIT will next play in the Maine Event this weekend, traveling to
Colby College, Bates College, and Bowdoin College. The Engineers
also will face Stanford University and Dennison University during
the two-day outing.
