CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT squash team dropped a couple of hard-fought, tightly contested matches during a 7-2 setback at the hands of visiting Tufts University on Wednesday afternoon at the Zesiger Squash courts. Six of the nine matches went to at least four sets, as the Engineers fell to 4-6 on the year, with one match remaining in their first semester schedule.
Sophomore Abhi Mitra (Medford, Mass.) earned a tough, come from behind victory for the Cardinal and Gray at the No. 6 position. After dropping the first set, 11-8, Mitra rallied to take the next three, 13-11, 11-8 and 11-9.
Junior Sunny Long (Wethersfield, Conn.) battled to a five-set win in the seventh position, 9-11, 11-2, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8.
Junior Connor Kirschbaum (Suffield, Conn.) and Elliot Kardon (Weston, Mass.) had the most entertaining set of the afternoon, as the two went back and forth before Kirschbaum ultimately fell 18-16 in the opening frame of their match at No. 8. Kardon would win the match, 18-16, 7-11, 11-5, 11-7.
Tech will travel to Amherst College on Saturday, December 10 for its final competition before the semester break. The match will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
