MIT Squash Overpowered by No. 10 Navy

Jan. 22, 2008

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - MIT's squash team took on Navy on Saturday afternoon as part of the weekend-long Yale Round Robin, and the young Engineers struggled to assert themselves against the powerful Midshipmen. Navy, ranked No. 10 nationally, swept the Cardinal and Gray, 9-0.

MIT fell to 1-6 on the season with the loss, while Navy improved to 10-5 with the victory.

Six of Tech's nine competitors were either freshmen or sophomores, and the match served as the intercollegiate debut for four MIT rookies. Joey DeRosa, John Kucharczyk, Sonny Thai and Edward Sung were all competing in an intercollegiate squash match for the first time in their careers.

The Engineers will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 26, when they will host Fordham University at 2:00 p.m.
