MIT Splits A Pair of Matches At Home

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT squash team hosted a pair of teams over the weekend and came away with a split, falling to Northeastern, 9-0, before knocking off Fordham, 8-1. Tech now stands at 9-5 on the season.

Against the Huskies, the Engineers were unable to come away with any points, despite winning the first set in a number of matches. Saad Zaheer kicked off his match in the third position with an opening set win before falling, 3-9, 9-6, 9-7, 9-2. Austin Anderson (1-9, 9-1, 9-7, 9-3) and John Kucharczyk (2-9, 9-4, 9-3, 9-5) also lost in four sets after opening their matches on a positive note.

The Cardinal and Grey was able to bounce back in the second match of the day, picking up a solid 8-1 win over Fordham. In the top spot, Balaji Sridhar recovered from an opening set 9-10 loss to sweep the next three sets 9-2, 9-2, 9-2. Andrew Yoon had one of the strongest performances of the day at no. two, defeating Jason Sherriff, 9-1, 9-1, 9-3.

MIT will take part in The Maine Event next weekend, hosted by Colby, Bates and Bowdoin. The Engineers’ first match will be Friday, February 6 against Colby at 5:00 p.m.
