MIT Squash Downs Boston College, 7-2

Feb. 5, 2008

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Senior Xing Yuan, junior Saad Zaheer and freshman John Kucharczyk each earned come-from-behind five-game victories to help MIT's squash team defeat Boston College, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon in the Zesiger Center. The triumph was the second of the season for the Engineers, who moved to 2-7.

Sophomore Andrew Yoon led the Cardinal and Gray out of the No. 1 spot with a 9-4, 9-3, 9-4 sweep over BC's Peter Gallagher. Senior David Baumgartner (9-6, 9-5, 9-7) and freshman Michael Zomnir (9-0, 9-5, 9-0) also won in the minimum three games from the No. 4 and 5 positions, respectively.

No. 2 Zaheer needed an amazing comeback to earn the victory in his match, as he fell in the first two games, 9-5, 10-8. However, he regrouped to take the next two games, 9-5, 9-5, before winning a remarkable fifth game, 10-8. No. 6 Yuan (9-4, 5-9, 3-9, 9-7, 9-5) and No. 7 Kucharczyk (4-9, 9-4, 7-9, 9-6, 9-6) also erased deficits to provide the Engineers with crucial victories.

Senior Jonathan Schechter earned MIT's seventh victory from the No. 9 position by default, while fellow senior Pawan Deedwaniya swept an exhibition match.

The Engineers will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 7, when they will travel to Wesleyan University for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
