Squash Closes Regular Season Against Columbia

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT squash team fell to Columbia University, 6-3, in its final dual-match of the season on Saturday. The Engineers (2-13) will compete next weekend in the National Team Championship to establish a final national ranking for the year. Tech is currently ranked 32nd out of 46 teams.

MIT claimed victories in the second, third, and fourth positions. At No. 2, Adam Bushashia won, 10-8, 9-1, 9-4, improving his dual meet record to 9-6. Ashwin Deshpande overpowered Tom Langer for a 9-3, 9-3, 9-4, win. Duncan Ma did not give up a point in his win in the No. 4 slot.

Columbia's strong No. 1, Nik Trikha, defeated Nikhil Khana, 9-2, 9-6, 4-9, 9-2. The remainder of the squad played in higher positions than usual due to the absence of two players. Nicholas Baksh fell in the No. 5 spot, 9-4, 9-7, 9-4. Jehan DeFonseka dropped a five-game back-and-forth thriller (9-5, 2-9, 9-7, 4-9, 9-2) while Jonathan Fu lost, 9-0, 9-1, 9-2. Despite extending his opponent to a fourth game, HoaiLuu Q. Nguyen fell, 9-2, 6-9, 9-7, 9-2. In the No. 9 position, David Baumgartner posted a 9-0, 9-0, 9-1 loss.
