Orla O'Doherty Named Head Coach of MIT Squash

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - DAPER Department Head/Director of Athletics Candace Royer has recently announced the hiring of Orla O'Doherty to serve as head coach of MIT squash. O'Doherty, who spent the last year as head coach of the women's squash team at Tufts University, brings a wealth of experience and success into her new post at the Institute.

O'Doherty's coaching career extends nearly 15 years, including stops at several prestigious racket clubs as well as a three-year stint as head coach at Cornell University beginning in 1997. During the last six years, O'Doherty served as Director of Squash Programs at SquashBusters in Boston. The first urban youth enrichment program of its kind, SquashBusters contributes to the growth of squash as a sport, while providing a nurturing and educational experience for disadvantaged youth. In 2004, O'Doherty extended her contributions to SquashBusters after being named Director of Volunteer Recruitment and Mentoring.

O'Doherty was a member of the Irish National Squash Team from 1989-93, where she achieved a world ranking of No. 68 while participating in the World Squash Championships. In 2003, O'Doherty was crowned the over 30's U.S. National Champion.
