Baseball Routs Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/2/11)--MIT scored in seven different innings to beat Coast Guard 14-6 and snap the Bears four-game winning streak in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

MIT led 13-0 before the Bears scored two runs in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by junior Eddie Kalankiewicz and the Bears also added a run on an error.

Coast Guard (13-8, 3-4), which had just three hits in the game, scored four runs in the eighth as junior Mike Salerno walked with the bases loaded, Kalankiewicz was hit by a pitch to force in a run and sophomore Tyler Babkiewich added an RBI ground out.

Sophomore Derek Petty (1-3) took the loss for the Bears as he allowed seven runs, six earned in five innings work.

Coast Guard and MIT will play a doubleheader in Cambridge on Sunday to wrapup the three-game series.
