CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After hurling a complete game shutout last week, senior Torre Swanson (Redding, Calif.) was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced. It is the first baseball player of the week award earned by an Engineer this season.
Swanson had a solid week on the mound for MIT, throwing nine innings of shutout ball while allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out four. He started the week with a scoreless, two-inning stint out of the bullpen against Brandeis, giving up just one hit to the Judges. Getting the start against Springfield, he turned in a complete game gem, allowing just three hits and a walk in his seven innings, striking out three. He started the game by retiring the first 14 hitters he faced.
