CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A combination of outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments have landed three members of the MIT baseball team on the Capital One Academic All-District team the College Sports Information Directors of America has announced. Senior Bryan Macomber (Los Altos, Calif.), junior Aric Dama (Winfield, Ill.) and sophomore Sean Karson (Winter Park, Fla.) were all named to the honor.
MIT's starter at shortstop and a team captain, Macomber is hitting .306 and has driven in 21 runs this season. He leads the Engineers in RBI and runs and is second on the team in on-base percentage, doubles and home runs and is among the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference leaders in all of those categories. Last season he was a second team All-NEWMAC selection and set a school record with four doubles in a game.
An Academic All-District pick last year as well, Dama is one of the top starting pitchers in the NEWMAC. This year he has gone 3-3 with a 3.05 ERA and leads the team in strikeouts with 43 and innings pitched at 56 1/3. Last season he was the NEWMAC Pitcher of the Year after leading the conference in strikeouts.
Karson has been a steady performer at third base for MIT this season, hitting .347 with 15 RBI. He leads the team in stolen bases with 10 and is second in hitting and runs scored. Karson is also second on the team with 10 multi-hit games and has put together a seven-game hitting streak this season, also second on the squad.
