WELLESLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Hayden Cornwell (Newport Beach, Calif.) has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Player of the Week for baseball the league announced today. He hit .556 in a pair of games, belting a pair of doubles and a triple while driving in four runs.
Cornwell was instrumental in MIT's two wins last week. In the week's first game at Wesleyan (Conn.) he drove in runs in his first two trips to the plate and then tripled and scored a key insurance run in the seventh in the 7-5 triumph by the Engineers. In the dramatic come-from-behind win at Worcester State, his double in the ninth drove in the winning run and capped a three-run rally that led to a 4-3 victory.
Cornwell is the second MIT player to earn NEWMAC Player of the Week honors. He joins junior Creed Mangrum (Sandy, Utah) who was named to the honor in March.
