CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After completing an outstanding playing career with the MIT baseball team, senior Creed Mangrum (Sandy, Utah) has been selected to play in the annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Joe Walsh All-Star game. He will be a member of the College Division team that will take on a University Division team on June 1 in Lowell, Massachusetts.
A three-time All-New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) pick during his MIT career, Mangrum was also a third team all-region pick this year after helping MIT to its first NEWMAC title. He led the Engineers with his .345 batting average while also pacing the team in runs (35), home runs (6), doubles (15) and slugging (.545). Mangrum finished among the top-10 in the NEWMAC in average, runs, hits, doubles, home runs, RBI and walks. In MIT's game at Curry this season he tied the MIT record with three round trippers, driving in seven runs.
In its 40th year, the Joe Walsh All-Star game pits the University Division All-Stars, made up of New England's top Division I players, against the College Division All-Stars, which has its roster filled with the top players in Division II along with the top seniors from Division III. The annual game will take place on Sunday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m. at LaLacheur Park in Lowell.
