Boston, Mass. (March 20) -- MIT freshman catcher Thomas Allison (Kingwood, Texas) has been named as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Baseball Player of the Week after his outstanding performance in a four-game road trip to Atlanta last weekend. This marks the first NEWMAC weekly honor for MIT and Allison this season.
For the trip, Allison extended his hitting streak to five straight games as he posted three multi-hit games and batted a team-best .467 as the Engineers went 2-2. In a 14-0 shutout of Stevens, Allison hit a pair of long home runs to left field, as well as a four-RBI performance on Sunday vs. Oglethorpe. In total, he had six runs batted in, 14 total bases and was 1-for-1 in stolen base opportunities over the four games.
For the season, Allison is hitting .444 in five games with three extra-base hits and three runs scored. He also an .833 slugging percentage, a .500 on-base percentage and 28 putouts overall.
MIT is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, March 22nd as the Engineers travel to UMass Boston for a 3 p.m. start.
