CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - For the second consecutive week, Noel Hollingsworth was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Hollingsworth was also honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) as the Division III New England Player of the Week and was named to the D3Hoops.com National Team of the Week. In three MIT wins, the sophomore topped 30 points twice and recorded a pair of double-doubles.
Hollingsworth averaged 29.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks while shooting 64.8% from the field during the 3-0 stretch. The sophomore began the week with 23 points, 13 boards and 4 blocked shots in a 74-54 win over UMass Boston. He followed that up with 30 points, on 12 of 15 shooting, to go along with seven caroms, in an overtime win versus Salem St., an NCAA Division III Tournament participant in 2009. He capped the week with his third 30-point effort in five games, scoring 34 and adding 10 rebounds to help MIT down Lesley, 88-61, and move to 11-0 on the campaign.
Off to the best start in program history, the Engineers now stand at 11-0 and are ranked No. 22 nationally in the latest edition of the D3Hoops.com Top 25. MIT will be off for the next two weeks, returning on December 28 to take on Division I foe, Harvard. The two Cambridge neighbors have squared off 10 times, but not since 1985, with the Crimson owning a 9-1 advantage over their cross-town rivals. The game on the 28th is at Harvard and begins at 4:00 p.m.
