Hollingsworth’s Scoring Binge Leads to Player of the Week Accolades

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Following a career day in MIT's conference opener, Noel Hollingsworth was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. The sophomore was also selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Player of the Week and named to the D3Hoops.com National Team of the Week for the second time. Hollingsworth poured in 37 points on Saturday at Babson to help the nationally-ranked No. 9 Engineers improve to 13-1 on the season. This marks the third time this season the sophomore has picked up NEWMAC weekly honors.

The sophomore notched his eighth double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 boards in a 71-59 win over Tufts on Tuesday. He then followed that up with a career-high scoring effort, including 20 points on 9-10 shooting in the decisive second half, as MIT picked up a win in its conference opener against Babson, 72-45. Hollingsworth shot 60.9% from the field for the week and currently sits atop the NEWMAC in a number of statistical categories, including scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage.

The Engineers continue to ride their best start in program history, as they stand at 13-1 overall and are unbeaten against Division III competition. Tech moved up to No. 9 in the most recent D3Hoops.com Top 25, its third straight week in the poll and the highest ranking in program history. The Cardinal and Gray will welcome NEWMAC rival WPI to Rockwell Cage on Wednesday night, a team that has earned at least a share of the conference regular season title for the past six seasons and qualified for the NCAA Tournament five years in a row. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
