CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second time this year, MIT senior Jamie Karraker (Morgantown, W. Va.) has been selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball Player of the Week. Karraker, who is second on the team in scoring, helped the Cardinal and Gray win its first two conference games and improve to 14-0 overall last week.
Karraker connected on eight three-balls en route to 24 points in Saturday's 87-54 win over Wheaton. The senior added five rebounds in the game as well. In the conference opener against Springfield on Wednesday, Karraker had 11 points to go along with a pair of steals. He shot 47.8% (11-23) from long distance for the week, averaging 17.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per contest.
The senior had previously earned Player of the Week honors for the week ending December 11. He leads the conference in three-pointers made and is third in the league in scoring. He also ranks second in all of Division III in three-point field goals per game, knocking down 4.7 per contest.
Karraker and the Engineers will hit the road for a pair of NEWMAC games this week, playing at the Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday, January 11 and at Babson College on Saturday. With a win on Wednesday, Tech can match the program record of 15 consecutive wins, set in 1961-62.
