WELLESELY, Mass. – A career night for MIT men's basketball sophomore Matt Redfield (Los Altos, Calif.) last week has earned him the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors the league announced today. It is the first career Player of the Week award for Redfield as well as the first time in the 2012-13 season that an Engineer has been selected for the honor.
In last week's 74-61 victory at Bridgewater State, Redfield scored a career-high 18 points to help lead MIT to the win in the team's final game before the Holiday break. He scored 12 of his points in the second half, netting seven in a key 16-4 run by MIT that broke open what had been a three-point game. Redfield also led all players in the contest with nine rebounds.
Redfield and the rest of the Engineers will be back in action after Christmas when MIT will travel to California for a New Year's Eve matchup with La Verne University at 5:00 p.m. Eastern.
