    A decisive second-half run by Eastern Connecticut proved to be the difference as the No. 21 ranked MIT men’s basketball team dropped an 86-70 final to the Warriors on Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Engineers end the season at 21-7 overall, marking the program’s ninth 20-win season.
  • PREVIEW: MIT Takes on Eastern Conn. in NCAA First Round

    Cambridge, Mass. (March 2) -- The No. 21 ranked MIT men’s basketball team opens NCAA Tournament play on Friday, March 3 as the Engineers face Eastern Connecticut State University in the first round. The game, which is slated for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff, will take place at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa.
  • Jurko, Butala Honored on NEWMAC All-Conference Teams

    Boston, Mass. (February 28) -- MIT sophomore AJ Jurko (Weston, Fla.) and senior Tim Butala (Monroe, Conn.) have both been named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Basketball All-Conference Teams. Jurko is a First Team honoree and is the league’s Defensive Player of the Year, while Butala earned Second Team All-Conference accolades. In addition, Jurko has been named to the NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
  • Men's Basketball to Face Eastern Connecticut in NCAA First Round

    The MIT men’s basketball team, fresh off Sunday’s NEWMAC Championship victory over No. 1 ranked Babson College, has earned the program’s sixth berth in the NCAA Division III Championship. The Engineers will travel to Susquehanna University to face Eastern Connecticut State in the first round on Friday, March 3rd. This marks the first-ever meeting between the Engineers and the Warriors.
  • Men's Basketball Downs No. 1 Babson, 67-62, for NEWMAC Championship

    Led by NEWMAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player Tim Butala (Monroe, Conn.), the MIT men’s basketball team built a double-digit lead and eventually held off No. 1 nationally-ranked Babson College by a thrilling 67-62 final on Saturday afternoon. This marks the fifth NEWMAC title in program history for the Engineers, who are now 5-2 in NEWMAC championship games. This is also the seventh NCAA Tournament appearance for MIT, all coming under head coach Larry Anderson.
  • Bockman's Block Sends Men's Basketball Into the NEWMAC Title Game

    A last-second block by sophomore Samuel Bockman (Oceanside, Calif.) sealed a spot in the NEWMAC Championship Game for second-seeded MIT as the Engineers defeated WPI by a thrilling 63-61 final on Saturday night at Babson College. WPI lobbed the ball in off an inbounds play with 1.1 seconds remaining, but Bockman swatted away Chris Rodgers’ potential game-tying layup to preserve the two-point victory.
  • Men's Basketball Places Five on NEWMAC All-Academic Team

    Boston, Mass. (February 23) -- Five members of the MIT men’s basketball team have been named to the 2016-17 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference Teams. The team consists of 16 student-athletes, with MIT’s five marking the most among the league’s member institutions.
  • Men's Basketball Falls at No. 1 Babson in 70-67 Final

    Babson’s Nick Comenale knocked down a game-winning three-pointer in the final second as the top-ranked Beavers rallied past the MIT men’s basketball team for a 70-67 win on Saturday afternoon in the regular-season finale for both teams. MIT led 67-57 with just over four minutes remaining before Babson rallied for the comeback win.
  • MIT Rallies For 74-70 Senior Night OT Win Over Emerson

    On Senior Night on Wednesday evening, the MIT men’s basketball team rallied late to force overtime, en route to a 74-70 overtime win over Emerson College at Rockwell Cage. Prior to the start of the game, MIT senior Tim Butala (Monroe, Conn.) was recognized for his contributions to the program over his four-year career.
  • Men's Basketball Picks Up 75-67 Win Over Wheaton
    February 11, 2017
    Led by three players in double figures, the MIT men’s basketball team ran its win streak to four straight with a 75-67 home victory over Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon. MIT is receiving votes for the second straight week in the D3hoops.com National Poll and is ninth in the first NCAA New England regional rankings.
  • Butala, Pierce Named as CoSIDA Academic All-District Honorees

    Austin, Texas (February 9) -- MIT men’s basketball senior Tim Butala (Monroe, Conn.) and sophomore Dakota Pierce (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) have both been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Teams for their academic and athletic performances. Both Butala and Pierce earned All-District recognition for the first time in their careers.

  • Men's Basketball Defeats Coast Guard by 73-63 Final

    On Saturday afternoon, the MIT men’s basketball team improved to 16-5 overall and 8-2 in the league with a wire-to-wire 73-63 home win over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. With the win, the Engineers are now 8-3 at home and have won eight of their last 10 games. In addition, MIT is receiving votes in this week’s D3hoops.com National Poll.
  • Men's Basketball Joins Coaches vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge

    Cambridge, Mass. (February 1) -- The MIT men’s basketball team is participating in the Coaches vs. Cancer program throughout the month of February, created jointly by the American Cancer Society and the NABC. This exciting initiative will help raise funds to fight cancer through the 3-Point Challenge campaign, where people can pledge their donations for every three-pointer the Engineers make from February 1st to the end of the season.

    In NEWMAC play on Saturday afternoon, the MIT men’s basketball team got back in the win column with a 76-67 wire-to-wire road victory over Emerson College. The Engineers, who are receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com National Poll, are currently one game back of first place in the NEWMAC standings.

    UMass Dartmouth’s Chris Mendes knocked down a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer on Tuesday night as the MIT men’s basketball team fell by a 72-70 final to the Corsairs in non-conference action. The Engineers took a one-point lead with three seconds left on a corner three by senior Tim Butala (Monroe, Conn.) before Mendes dropped in the game-winning basket.
