March 2, 2009

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Senior point guard Bradley Gampel was named NEWMAC Player of the Week in men's basketball after serving a vital role in helping MIT capture it's first-ever NEWMAC tournament championship, while securing its first NCAA Tournament berth in program history.

In MIT's quarterfinal round win against Coast Guard, Gampel dished out nine assists without a turnover, while adding four points and four rebounds. In the semifinals, Gampel was the key cog in a tight, defensive battle as he set a single-game Institute record with eight steals. He added five points and four assists as MIT topped Babson, 50-39.

In the championship final, Gampel was once again in command of MIT's offense as he totaled 10 assists with only one turnover in the Engineers, 76-50, victory over Springfield. He added seven rebounds and three steals, while setting the MIT single-season record for thefts.
